Secular Meditation is considered as one of the techniques for Alternative medicine by an U.S government entity termed as National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Meditation might be used for different purposes like physical relaxation and calmness, to face illness, to enhance emotional balance and to improve overall health of an individual.
Herbet Benson who belongs to Harvard Medical School carried out group of clinical tests with meditators of different disciplines which includes Tibetan Buddhism and Transcendental Meditation. During 1975, a book was published by Benson known as The Relaxation Response in which he explained his own meditation standards and techniques for relaxation. Many researchers have used Biofeedback since 1950s with the effort of reaching deeper mind states.
